Ever since the invasion of the Onelove Music Group at Amsterdam Dance Event I’ve been wondering who this DJ Generik was (he’s fit but he knows it). Then he toured with Surkin and aforementioned Drop The Lime, and this mystifying man was all over the internet, and I kept wondering and wondering. This is the first mix I heard of him. It’s a bang-up listen. There are little surprising tracks in there but it’s decently mixed and keeps the kids dancing, which is most pronominal. Expect some Strip Steve, Tiga and Fake Blood amongst other tracks you will want to toast to.

Some say he lives in the skies above us, more than he does on terra firma; some even believe him to be the heir to European royalty. All we know is that he is DJ Generik and he has clocked up enough frequent flyer miles to be the first DJ to play on the moon (in the not so distant future). DJ Generik is definitely Aussie bred yet a citizen of the world, and he has spent most of his adult life either DJing at a party, being at a party or on an aircraft going to a party. He rubs shoulders and is on first name basis with the likes of the all the A-list DJs and B-grade celebs the world over. His name might sound a little un-cool to the virgin ear, but lets put it this way – DJ Generik is a pillar of cool and will continue to share and spill his ice cool aura wherever he plays. We also believe he is currently trying to the trademark the word “cool”, and as far as we can tell – he will do it.
From the bright sunny heights of Sydney suburbia, after months spent tweaking in his studio/parents living room comes the original funky-fresh Zulu synth warrior, Cassian, with his 3 track release on Bang Gang 12s.
This is Cassian’s debut outing after remixing the likes of Empire of the Sun, Bag Raiders, Damn Arms, Classix and Miami Horror. The lead track is ‘Friday Night’, and you can sample it here for free. It’s the perfect weekend synth jam with wah-wah guitar, disco vocals, stabbing guitar chords, horn stabs and more.
The EP also features ‘Final Round’, a feel good summer opus with distorted bassline, arcade game samples, knockout drums and filters, and the ‘Fuck Song’ (as the title suggests), a super smooth jazz piano funk number.
If you were to take ecstasy laced with acid and drank it down with a couple of shots of high-grade tequila, it’d likely compare to the resulting psychotropic effect given off by KILL THE NOISE!. We’re high-as-a-kite, much like Frankenstein prepare for da fun!
Legendary American DJ and producer Tommie Sunshine was unceremoniously booted off the decks at a party in Brooklyn recently, just moments after starting his set. “2nd track of my set, the cops shut down the rave I just played in Brooklyn,” said Sunshine on a message he posted on Twitter. “The last thing this city (New York City) needs to worry about is kids dancing,” he added.
“I’d gone on just after Odi, a New York drum & bass legend who had the crowd foaming at the mouth, so I was taking the speed back down to 132bpm, which was a chore. I’d started playing Yolanda Be Cool – Afro Nuts, the Douster Remix, the kids were going mental and the next thing I know, a cop is standing in front of me yelling ‘TURN IT OFF!’” he recalled.
“I have been DJing in America now for 18 years and I have never expected dance music to break although I have always hoped that it would. The closest thing we have to dance music in America right now is Lady Gaga (who I fully support) Black Eyed Peas (who are senseless thieves) and Ke$ha (who is for 12 year-olds and house-wives),” he added.
